If you’re accomplished in your work but relationships still feel harder than they should, you’re not alone.
A lot of the people I work with are successful on the outside, but guarded on the inside. They know how to perform, achieve, lead, and take care of everyone else. But when it comes to being seen, asking for what they need, or letting someone truly close, something shuts down.
The pattern can look like staying busy because stillness feels uncomfortable. Avoiding hard conversations because disappointing someone feels too risky. Overgiving because being needed feels safer than being known. Tolerating one-sided relationships because part of you keeps hoping things will change.
That is not a character flaw. It is a pattern. And patterns can be changed.

Healthier connection starts with understanding what keeps repeating, why it happens, and what a different response can look like.
The end of my engagement forced me to face a hard truth: choosing a different partner would not have been enough.
I had to understand and change the patterns I brought into my own relationships. I wanted to understand why I kept showing up the way I did and why certain patterns kept following me even when the person or situation changed.
So I studied attachment theory, behavioral psychology, 12-step recovery, and faith to better understand the patterns behind connection, emotional availability, communication, and the choices we make when relationships feel uncertain or difficult.
That journey became the foundation for Break the Patterns. Not another quick-fix approach to dating, but a deeper way to understand how we connect, why we protect ourselves, and how we begin choosing differently in the moments that matter.
I’m Dagmar Kusiak, Founder of Break the Patterns Movement and host of the Becoming Emotionally Available podcast.
Since 2019, I’ve supported 1,000+ professionals through coaching, workshops, and group programs.
My work helps high-performing entrepreneurs, professionals, and people who are ready for deeper connection stop repeating toxic relationship behaviors and start choosing healthier responses.
The same patterns that show up in dating can also show up with friends, family, coworkers, clients, business partners, and teams. The relationship may change, but the pattern can follow until you see it clearly enough to choose differently.
A client left a relationship where she had stopped using her own voice. Within months, she was in a healthy, committed relationship, dating with more intention instead of fear.
Another client realized he had been emotionally guarded his whole life. As he learned to communicate differently, it changed more than his romantic relationship. It also changed how he showed up with coworkers, and he is now in a healthy relationship.
One of the biggest breakthroughs I’ve seen happened in a client’s relationship with her business partner, not a romantic partner. The same patterns can affect connection in every area of life.
My work is practical, honest, and present-focused. Therapy often helps people look into the past, process emotional wounds, and understand where patterns began.
My coaching focuses on the present moment and allows you to continue that growth into the future. We look at what is happening now, what the pattern is asking you to do, and what a healthier response would look like in real life.
A repeatable process to catch the pattern, feel what is underneath it, and choose differently in the moment that matters.
A communication process that helps you stay in hard conversations instead of shutting down, overexplaining, people-pleasing, or disappearing.
Because intimacy should not cost you your voice.
Instead of chasing another dating hack, app, or strategy, we look at readiness first.
The goal is not just to find connection. The goal is to be ready to build it.
